My mom was the best letter writer. I think her generation, as a whole, were superior snail mail “pros”. She instilled both the value of keeping in touch with loved ones and memory making & keeping.
My mom, Jackie (short for Jacqueline) died 10 years ago, this past August. Seems impossible that a decade has passed already, as I still miss her so very much.
I was never a very good letter writer myself, although my handwriting is pretty good. I’m more into memory making. I did write some letters, but mostly I made things.
And I collected the bits and bobs of the letters and memorabilia from my mom and saved them along with my own little stockpile of memories.
I also take photos. Lots and lots of photos. I make even more sweet memories with the mementos of my past.
And although I don’t write many letters anymore, I do write more than I ever did. Between blog posts, social media and texting . . . there are a lot of words. A lot of memories. A lot of love.
Regardless, I think I need to start writing “real” letters again. But, I know me. I won’t write long letters or even medium ones. What I need to do is design and make my own postcards. That I know I can do!
So next month’s guest blog post is a challenge to myself and I do love a good challenge! I will design, make and send a postcard to Danielle. I will also send her a set of 6, just for being a fierce and loyal friend! ❤ See you next month!
